In the pursuit of knowledge, I have ventured into some truly interesting mediums.
The last couple of years, I have been progressing in my projection mapping abilities to include set design design/construction and VJing– my passion projects.
Moving to Las Vegas really did help that continued sojourn into the world of “blinky lights”. Using my home a testing grounds for my R&D have developed some interesting results.
I don’t make New Year’s Resolutions, rather, I make New Year’s “Passion Projects”. 2017’s passion projects are LED lights. I was extremely fortunate enough to test out these pyramids at this year’s SXSW in collaboration with Japanese Retro Wave band, Satellite Young. It was quite the learning experience with plenty of highs and lows.
I really enjoy this year’s passion projects as they are challenging many aspect of creation for me, but also introducing new skills I never knew I needed, like for instance, electrical engineering– never knew I’d need it, but damn, I’m glad I started learning it.
My biggest takeaway from this particular project was, “don’t burn the house down”.
It’s projects like these and the many in the future that amps me up. I get a thrill at building new things, constantly challenging myself and finding how I can reuse that knowledge at my actual job.
I’m in the business of creating experiences, and this has been the best way I learn to do my best.
